Privacy policy
What data we keep, what we do with report photos and how to delete your account, in plain words.
Updated October 17, 2026
In short
- You do not need an account to see the map, the beaches or the forecast.
- We keep the minimum an account needs: your first name, your language, your beach, your points and your alerts.
- From a report we only keep the beach. We never store or publish the exact location of a photo, nor that of your phone.
- We reject photos with faces and delete them on the spot.
- The minimum age is 13.
- There are no advertising trackers and no third-party cookies.
- You can delete your account at any time from Profile.
If you only browse
If you do not sign in, we do not know who you are. We only use the first-party cookies the site needs to work, such as the language one. We use no third-party cookies, no social media pixels and no tools that follow you from site to site.
If you create an account
You sign in with Apple or Google; there are no passwords. From that account we receive your email and your name, and of your name we only keep the first word. Your email stays in the sign-in system: we do not copy it into our tables and only use it to let you in and, if you turn on email alerts, to send them.
With your account we keep:
- your first name, which you can change;
- your language and your beach;
- your points, your streak and the date of your last report;
- the alerts you create and, if you turn on notifications, your browser's subscription to receive them;
- that you confirmed you are 13 or older.
Your session lives in a first-party cookie that only keeps you signed in.
Reports and photos
A report is the sargassum level you see and, if you want, a photo of the shore. There is no free text field.
- Location. From a report we only keep which beach it is. We never store coordinates, from your phone or from the photo, and we never publish the exact location of a photo.
- No metadata. Before storing it, we re-encode the photo on our server: the stored file carries no EXIF, GPS or camera data.
- No faces. An automatic image analysis service checks every photo to confirm it shows the shore. If a recognizable face appears, we reject the photo and delete it in the same request.
- Not published. Photos are kept in private storage. The public never sees them: it only sees that the report has a "verified photo".
- Deleted after 90 days. After that we delete the photo and the report stays without it.
Minimum age
The service is for people aged 13 or older. Before your first report we ask you to confirm it. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.
Who helps us run the service
We use providers that handle data only to provide their service to us: web hosting, the database and sign-in system, Apple and Google for signing in, the image analysis service that checks photos and the email service for alerts. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
Advertising
Ads on the site are spaces booked directly with businesses, always labeled "Advertisement" or "Sponsored". They carry no trackers and we give them none of your data.
How to delete your account
Open the app, go to Profile and tap Delete account. Once you confirm, we delete your user, your profile, your points, your alerts, your notification subscriptions and your photos. Your reports stay, without your name, because they help measure the sargassum at each beach. This cannot be undone.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date above.
